Enhancing Virtual Walking Sensation Using Self-Avatar in First-Person Perspective and Foot Vibrations

چکیده

Walking is a fundamental physical activity in humans. Various virtual walking systems have been developed using treadmill or leg-support devices. Using optic flow, foot vibrations simulating footsteps, and avatar, we propose system that does not require limb action for seated users. We aim to investigate whether full-body hands-and-feet-only avatar with either the first-person (experiment 1) third-person 2) perspective can convey sensation of environment through flows vibrations. The viewing direction camera head were linked actual user's motion. discovered enhanced sensations walking, leg action, telepresence, synchronous asynchronous Although compared no-avatar condition, its effect was less prominent than avatar. However, did enhance action; rather, it impaired self-motion telepresence. Synchronous rhythmic self-motion, waking, irrespective condition. These results suggest hands-and-feet effective creating experiences from perspective, but footsteps are effective, regardless

First Person Perspective of Seated Participants Over a Walking Virtual Body Leads to Illusory Agency Over the Walking

Agency, the attribution of authorship to an action of our body, requires the intention to carry out the action, and subsequently a match between its predicted and actual sensory consequences. However, illusory agency can be generated through priming of the action together with perception of bodily action, even when there has been no actual corresponding action. Here we show that participants ca...

Telepresence Techniques for Controlling Avatar Motion in First Person Games

First person games are computer games, in which the user experiences the virtual game world from an avatar’s view. This avatar is the user’s alter ego in the game. In this paper, we present a telepresence interface for the first person game Quake III Arena, which gives the user the impression of presence in the game and thus leads to identification with his avatar. This is achieved by tracking ...

Enhancing sensation in diabetic neuropathic foot with mechanical noise.

OBJECTIVE Localized low-level mechanical or electrical noise can significantly enhance tactile sensitivity in healthy young subjects and older adults. This phenomenon is termed stochastic resonance (SR). In this study, we examined the effect of SR on vibratory and tactile sensation in patients with moderate to severe diabetic peripheral neuropathy. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A total of 20 su...

Walking in VR: Measuring Presence and Simulator Sickness in First-Person Virtual Reality Games

Presence is often used as a quality measure for virtual reality experiences. It refers to the sensation of “being there” that users feel while wearing a head-mounted display. In contrast, simulator sickness refers to the feeling of unease of some users while experiencing virtual motion. Nowadays, many virtual reality games do not allow the player to walk, trying to minimize the generation of un...
